A 22-year-old from Germany has been charged with a number of terrorism offences

German national Florian Flegel was charged with a long list of terror-related offences largely to do with the dissemination of terrorist material in the form of video clips.

He is due to appear in court later today (Monday, October 19).

Detailing the crimes he is charged with, a statement from the Met Police released late on Sunday (October 18) after he was charged revealed they believe Flegal “transmitted a terrorist publication…and at the time of doing so intended an effect of your conduct to be a direct or indirect encouragement or other inducement to the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism or being reckless as to whether your conduct had that effect.”

Such acts contravene the Terrorism Act 2006, police pointed out.

Police detailed at least five different instances of Flegal purportedly engaging in such behaviour from August 15-September 23, 2020.

He was arrested at Stansted Airport around 5.30pm on Monday, October 12, after he was stopped under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Flegal is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.
