Abu Bakr Deghayes is a British man from Brighton,whose two sons were killed fighting in Syria has been charged with terrorist offences.

He has been charged with encouraging the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Deghayes is believed to be still in charge of al-Quds mosque in Brighton.

Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), which arrested Deghayes, said the charge relates to Islamist terrorism.

Deghayes brother Omar was held at Guantanamo Bay between 2002 and 2007 after being detained in Pakistan shortly after the Taliban were ousted in Afghanistan.
