A man from Skien was sentenced in the district court to twelve years in prison for attempted complicity in a terrorist attack. The appeal case starts in Borgarting Court of Appeal on Tuesday next week.
The 25-year-old man is accused of three attempts to contribute to terrorist attacks abroad via chat groups for which he was the administrator.
The man is also accused of having participated in the terrorist group ISIS and sharing bomb recipes and propaganda for ISIS.
In the district court, he was acquitted of one case of complicity. Both the accused and the prosecuting authority appealed the verdict.
The prosecuting authority appealed against the acquittal for one attempted case of complicity, while the accused has appealed against the conviction for two cases of attempted complicity in a terrorist attack and participation in a terrorist organization.
“He is puzzled by the verdict, which is the most severe since Norway began to prosecute terror suspects in this way,” the man’s lawyer Brynjar Meling told NTB after the district court verdict was passed.
In the district court, the prosecutor asked for 15 years in prison. The 25-year-old denied criminal guilt on all counts of terrorism.
The hearing in the Court of Appeal starts on October 26, and twelve court days have been set aside for the case.
