Authorities busted narco-terror module in Jammu and Kashmir as 1.5kg heroin is recovered

Security forces and police have busted a narco-terror module in Jammu and Kashmir and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin from a village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector of Poonch.

In a search operation in Dabbi forest area yesterday Mendhar Police found 1.5 kg of a substance, suspected to be heroin, wrapped in three packets and covered in polythene bag with an address of a shop in Pakistan’s Lahore.

An FIR registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

“For some time, the security forces were getting information regarding smuggling of heroin in the area and following specific inputs, the security forces raided one of the houses in Dabbi village in Mendhar sector. During the process, the forces were able to recover 1.5 kg of heroin packets,” the police officials said.

According to the officials, the consignment had come from across the border, however, it’s not clear how it was smuggled into the Indian territory. The accused is on the run and a search operation is underway

This comes days after the Jammu and Kashmir police busted a huge Pakistan-sponsored narcotics-terror module in Kupwara and arrested three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives for being involved in the peddling of narcotics.

Dr GV Sundeep Chakravarthy, Superintendent of Police, Handwara, said the three LeT terror associates were in contact with their handlers based out of Pakistan. The Handwara Police had also seized 21 kilograms of heroin and Indian currency worth Rs 1.34 crores from the LeT operatives.

Chakravarthy said the module was smuggling drugs to found LeT’s terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The police described the busting of the hawala-based narco-terror module as one of the biggest to have been busted.

“The three, who were arrested, were peddling drugs to financially help the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. It’s a very big hawala racket where the money is transferred without money movement and financed for terrorist activities,” the Handwara SP told the media.

The Indian security agencies have neutralised over 22 dreaded terrorists in the recent past as Pakistan has been making several attempts to infiltrate terrorists across the LoC.

The number of ceasefire violations by the Pakistan security agencies has also increased in the recent past.

“Pakistan is making efforts to send more Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Toiba cadres into Kashmir. For that, they are trying to use the International Border sector in Jammu or the LoC in Nowshera sector (in Rajouri district). Efforts are also being made in Kupwara and Baramulla to push more terrorists into this side under the garb of ceasefire violations. The Army is foiling these efforts there,” Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbag Singh had said on Tuesday.
