Brother of Manchester suicide bomber on trial for murder

The brother of a suicide bomber who targeted a pop concert in Manchester in 2017 goes on trial on Tuesday accused of murdering 22 people.

Hashem Abedi, 22, is accused of planning the attack with his older brother Salman, who died when he detonated the device at the end of a concert by American singer Ariana Grande.

Mr Abedi is accused of murdering those who died on May 22, 2017, the attempted murder of others who were wounded and one count of conspiring with his brother to cause explosions. He denies the charges against him.

A jury was selected on Monday who all had to confirm that they had no connection with the criminal justice system, the armed forces or security services or had a family member had been affected by a terrorist incident.

The trial is expected to last eight weeks.
