Syrian Defence Forces suffer heavy casualties in failed attempt to capture the last ISIS town

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched their last phase of the eastern Euphrates offensive this past weekend in a bid to finally expel the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) from this region.

However, the SDF’s attack on the last ISIS-held town of Baghouz did not go as planned on Sunday as the terrorist group refused to yield any ground to the Kurdish-led troops.

According to reports, the Islamic State not only foiled the Syrian Democratic Forces’ attack on Baghouz, but they were also able to inflict heavy casualties within the ranks of the latter during the day-long battle.

The reports said that the Syrian Democratic Forces suffered as many as 20 casualties during the battle, as the Islamic State managed to hold their ground throughout the attack.

The Syrian Democratic Forces are working to capture Baghouz from the Islamic State in order to clear the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

The U.S.’ future withdrawal from Syria is also contingent on the defeat of the Islamic State in this imperative region in eastern Syria.
