Confrontations break out between security personnel and ISIS terrorists north of Baghdad

Confrontations have occurred between Islamic State militants and security personnel, north of Baghdad, the Iraqi Interior Ministry’s Security Media Center said on Wednesday.

“Several Islamic State members attacked the electricity towers in al-Buhairat region in Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad,” the center said in a statement, adding that this “has prompted the clashes against security personnel there.”

The center then added that the situation has been under control.

Earlier today, a security source told Baghdad Today website that clashes broke out in al-Manahla village in Tarmiyah, leaving three militants killed and a soldier wounded.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

On Tuesday, four people, including a child, were wounded in a bomb blast, al-Aamel district, southwest of Baghdad. Earlier on the same day, two civilians were wounded in a bomb blast, in al-Taji district, north of the capital.

A total of 79 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 99 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in July 2018, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Baghdad was the worst affected Governorate, with 63 civilian casualties (30 killed, 33 injured), followed by Kirkuk (8 killed, 34 injured) and Nineveh (13 killed and 05 injured).
