Eight Islamic State terrorists arrested west of Mosul

Eight Islamic State members were arrested in west of Mosul, the Interior Ministry’s Security Media Center said on Tuesday.

In a statement by the center, Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, spokesperson for the ministry, said Nineveh police “managed to arrest eight Islamic State members. All of them were fighting with the group, while it was in control of the city. They took part in battles against security troops.”

The militants, according to the statement, “were arrested in al-Quds, Tes’ein and al-Intissar regions, west of Mosul.”

On Monday, the center said Nineveh troops arrested five Islamic State female members. They had pledged allegiance to the militant group through Islamic State’s mufti known as Abu Ayyoub. They worked for al-Hisbah (Vigilantism) department. One of them used to work as a biter, who bites women using an iron tool while the group was in control of the city.

Thousands of militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
