New ISIS mass grave found in Iraq’s Babil

A new mass grave was found on Tuesday in the Iraqi province of Babil, an area where only the Iraqi forces and Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias have been dominant in the past few years, and not the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.

Babil city was not occupied by the IS militants when they attacked Iraq in 2014.

However, the grave, which included 22 bodies, was discovered in the town of Mihawil in central Fazilia region by a police force cooperatively with a special medical team, a security source told al-Arabiya al-Jadid, adding that the bodies were taken to the forensic department.

He pointed out that they cannot currently accuse any sides of committing the crime as the area has been at the hands of Iraqi forces and Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi, but that investigations are ongoing into the incident.

He further explained that the victims, who were all men, were aged between 20 to 50.
