Germany arrests Syrian man over suspected ISIS membership

German authorities have arrested a Syrian man suspected of being a member of the Islamic State group and spreading propaganda for the extremist organization.

The federal prosecutors’ office said the 22-year-old, identified only as Esmail A.A. in line with German privacy rules, was arrested Thursday in the eastern state of Saxony.

It said the suspect posted numerous pieces of IS propaganda in WhatsApp chat groups that he described as a “news agency,” starting in September, and in two cases instructions on how to participate in IS.

Prosecutors say he shared material depicting scenes of IS captives being tortured and executed.
