Two Islamic State group members arrested west of Mosul

Two Islamic State members were arrested in a security operation in west of Mosul, the Interior Ministry’s Security Media Center said on Sunday.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, spokesperson for the ministry, said the Nineveh police “managed to arrest two Islamic State members, one of whom was pledged allegiance to the group, while the other was working for the group’s so-called Cubs of the Caliphate.”

The two militants, according to the statement, “are wanted to stand judiciary. One of them was arrested in al-Rifaie district, while the other was in al-Islah al-Zira’ie district in west of Mosul.”

Both of them, according to Maan, “were transferred to authorities in question in order to take legal measures against them.”

On Saturday, ten Islamic State members were arrested in an operation in al-Shoura district in southern Mosul.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
