Islamic State is regrouping through women held at al-Hol camp

The Islamic State (IS) militants held at al-Hol Camp in northern Syria are accelerating the efforts to reorganize themselves through the female detainees loyal to the group, said a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) official.

“The situation in al-Hawl [al-Hol] camp is deteriorating sharply as the Daesh militants have stepped up their regrouping efforts through the women in the camp recently,” Mustafa Bali, head of US-backed SDF press office wrote on Twitter.

“This is going to be very dangerous in the future unless governments take responsibility for their citizens,” the Kurdish official warned.

Al-Hol camp is where nearly 73,000 people, mostly families of IS jihadists, are being held by the Kurdish-led SDF.

The Syrian Kurds have been repeatedly calling on the international community to push governments to repatriate their citizens who joined IS before being arrested and transferred to the camp.
