Islamic State terrorist group seeks vengeance upon the Spanish city of Barcelona

Barcelona has become the latest target of the Islamic State. Last May, it was the Guardia Civil itself who accredited that jihadis had a certain obsession with the Cataluñan city, especially after the arrest of Yassin Amrani who wanted to attack Camp Nou with a drone.

Yesterday morning the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested two individuals from Algeria in the Ciudad Condal who, according to investigative sources, had already set objectives to conduct their criminal activity. Although the footage has not been released, all of their terrorist propaganda, be it posters or videos, there are images of the Sagrada Familia.

This is already the tenth anti-jihadist operation conducted by the Spanish security forces this year, which gives the impression that the country is focal in Daesh’s western operative plan. However, the effective nature of the security forces has ensured that these attempts against Spain do not go by unchecked.

This jihadi obsession with Barcelona can be traced back to the summer attacks in 2017. According to police investigations, the two Algerian detainees, 41 and 43 years of age, were attempting to reactivate the terrorist cell, however, they were lacking in explosives and weapons which reduced their threat significantly.
