Islamic State terrorist who killed seven people is arrested in Diyala

An Islamic State member, who admitted to killing seven people, has been arrested in Diyala province, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said on Friday.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, spokesperson of the ministry, said security forces in Diyala “arrested an Islamic State member.”

The suspect, according to Maan, “works within the so-called Diyala State. He admitted to committing several crimes, including the murder of seven people. Legal measures were taken against him.”

On Wednesday, a security source was quoted saying that an Islamic State leader was arrested in al-Saadiya region in Diyala.

Last week, security forces managed during operations to follow Islamic State militants in Hamreen and al-Nada basin, killing three militants and destroying 20 rest houses that contained explosives.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
