Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga commanders have warned of re-emergence of the Islamic State (IS) in the disputed areas.
The jihadist group is reportedly attempting to reorganize itself in the provinces of Kirkuk, Diyala, and Mosul, Peshmerga commanders at the Garmaser front confirmed, as cited by Kurdistan 24.
They noted that the militants have increased their violations in the disputed territories once again, trying to target the security forces and civilians.
The insurgents have seized the absence of the Peshmerga forces in the areas as an opportunity to regroup themselves.
The Iraqi army and the pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias overran the disputed Kurdish territories in October, 2017 and forced the Peshmerga fighters out of the region.
