The military said Friday it overran a jungle camp of Islamic State-inspired extremists in Lanao del Sur province, as troops chased the rebels’ alleged leader, Abu Dar.

The fighting left 3 soldiers wounded, the military said, adding it was confirming 3 fatalities on the side of the Dawla Islamiya or Islamic State.

Rockets, black flags with ISIS symbols, clothes, books and notebooks were seized from the camp in Sumalindao village, Sultan Domalondong town, which was surrounded by trenches and fox holes.

Abu Dar is the reported successor of Maute group leaders and brothers Omar and Abdullah Maute. The group led a 5-month siege on Marawi City in mid-2017 that also resulted in the brothers’ deaths.

Some 150 families were evacuated due to the fighting. Two extremists, a 34-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy surrendered, the military said.
