Key Taliban commander for the Nangarhar province killed in Pakistan

An Afghan official said Monday, that a key Taliban commander for eastern Nangarhar was killed in northwestern Pakistan.

The Taliban commander was shot and killed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Pakistan.

Nangarhar Governor, Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhel named the militant commander “Nek Mohammad”, who was assassinated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan.

According to Amarkhel, two other militants accompanying Nek Mohammad including Azizullah known as Mustafa were also injured in the Haji Camp area of Peshawar.

Amarkhel did not provide further details on who was behind the killing of this Taliban commander in Peshawar.

This comes as two public uprising force members were killed and several others were injured in a Taliban offensive in Herat province on early Tuesday morning.

Herat’s Governor, Sayed Waheed Qatali told the media, that the incident took place at around 2 am in the Ghorian district of the province, after a car bomb detonated close to Police Head Quarters and a public uprising outpost.

According to Qatali security force members targeted the explosive-laden vehicle before it could reach its target and cause further damage.

Reports indicated that the clashes continued for several hours, following the arrival of reinforcements, the Taliban attack was repulsed by the Afghan National Defense and Security forces.

He added, that heavy casualties were inflicted on the Taliban.

So far, the Taliban have not commented on the attack.
