Kuwait seizes terror cell linked to the Muslim Brotherhood

Kuwaiti security authorities had arrested a terrorist cell linked to the Muslim Brotherhood wanted in Egypt to serve jail sentences on terrorism-related charges, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

Members of the group had fled from Egypt to Kuwait, but were arrested in different places in the country.

They admitted in preliminary investigations to have mounted terrorist attacks in different parts of Egypt before escaping to Kuwait, the ministry said, according to the official Kuwaiti news agency KUNA.

“Investigations are still under to determine who helped them to hide and covered them up and collaborators with them,” the ministry said.

“The Interior Ministry warns it will show no leniency towards anyone proven to have collaborated or linked to this cell or any terrorist organisations.”

The ministry vowed to “strike with an iron fist” against anyone trying to harm Kuwait’s security.

The group is made up of eight members, all of them Egyptian nationals, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai reported.

Egypt has experienced a spate of militant attacks since the army’s 2013 overthrow of president Mohammad Mursi, a senior Brotherhood official, following enormous street protests against his rule.

Later, Egyptian authorities designated the Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation.
