Mahmut Ozden is the “so-called emir” of the Islamic State terrorist group in Turkey and was part of terror cell that was operating in Adana.
Ozden has been detained, arrested and tried several times since 2017. He was detained in an operation in the southern city of Adana prior to appearing before a court, when he was formally arrested and imprisoned pending charges.
A computer and other digital material seized from the suspect revealed that the group took orders from Iraq or Syria and planned to attack businesses, kidnap Turkish politicians and to take them to Syria.
Information obtained from an Islamic State militant detained in Istanbul last month while reportedly planning to conduct an attack led to Ozden’s arrest.
