Man from Rochester charged with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State

A Rochester resident has been federally charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 28-year-old Muhammad Masood was arrested Thursday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. According to the court complaint, Masood is a licensed medical doctor in Pakistan and was formerly employed as a research coordinator at a medical clinic in Rochester.

Masood allegedly made several statements pledging his allegiance to ISIS and reportedly expressed his desire to conduct “lone wolf” terrorist attacks in the U.S.

The case is a result of an investigation conducted by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
