Melbourne nurse Adam Brookman admits travelling to Syria in support of Islamic State terrorist group

A Melbourne nurse has admitted travelling to Syria to support the terror network Islamic State.

Father-of-five Adam Brookman formally pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court of Victoria to performing services in support or promotion of the commission of an offence between May and July 2014.

The 45-year-old was first arrested in relation to the charges on his return to Melbourne in July 2015.

He handed himself in to Turkish authorities the same month before he was brought back to Australia.

The father-of-five has been in custody since his return.

He will face a pre-sentence hearing in front of Justice Jane Dixon on May 14.
