Iraqi Prime Minister: “The ISIS leader al-Baghdadi is possibly in remote areas”

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi said on Tuesday that the leader of Islamic State (IS) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is possibly in the “remote areas”.

The statement came a day after a video was released purportedly showing Baghdadi speaking in front of a small group of jihadists.

However, the Iraqi prime minister said it was not clear whether Baghdadi was in remote areas of Iraq or Syria.

“Regarding the location of Baghdadi, we can’t give intelligence information right now but it’s clear from the video that he’s in a remote area,” Reuters quoted Abdul-Mahdi.

He also warned that the video message was possibly an attempt to boost militants’ morale and that the Islamic State would probably attempt to carry out more attacks.

“Daesh (Islamic State) is not just a small organization, it’s widespread and will try to put confidence back in its militants and carry out acts such as those in Sri Lanka.”
