A mother-of-three living as an events organiser and translator in Germany has been exposed as a jihadi bride who ran a recruitment drive for the terrorist group, it is claimed.
Omaima Abdi returned from Syria before the ISIS caliphate fell. She slipped back into a western lifestyle in Hamburg, northern Germany but was rumbled when damning photos were discovered on a phone she lost, according to The Sunday Times.
Photos of family meals and school runs with her young children were in stark contrast to the ones showing her son holding a pistol, and posing in front of ISIS insignia.
The lost phone fell into the hands of an Arabic journalist who passed it on to a Dubai-based TV channel who broadcast the findings.
It revealed that her interest in Islam started in 2012, before which she led a western life, then joining as ISIS fighter husband with her three kids in Raqqa in January 2015, then returning to Germany unchallenged around 2016.
It also revealed possible links to Britain, with the mother-of-three messaging in English with a girl believed to be an 18-year-old from Lewisham.
After the airing on Al Aan, police in her home city of Hamburg revealed they have already initiated inquiries into Abdi’s double life.
M15 are also keen to speak to the German in relation to her British links amid fears the UK could face an influx of returning brides who could slip under the radar like Abdi did upon her return from Raqqa.
The 34-year-old of Tunisian descent had 36GB of data on the phone, including evidence that pointed towards her online recruitment of western females and pictures of her lovingly gazing at a rifle-wielding fighter from Luton who is known to have links to British hate preacher Anjem Choudary.
The mine of data also uncovered possible contact details in Syria for a teen ISIS bride from Lewisham in southeast London.
The Sunday Times say that there is also evidence that Abdi was a pivotal member in an online propaganda circle dubbed ‘the Mumsnet for jihadi brides’.
The ‘Free Our Sisters’ group lauded female terrorists jailed in Britain and celebrated the anniversary of 9/11 by posting a picture of a cake decorated with two towers and the face of Osama bin Laden.
Her phone didn’t just reveal her fervent support for the caliphate, but the normal life she led before becoming interested in Syria.
In Germany, pre-2012 when she became interested in Islam, she was pictured dressing in revealing clothes and even had a daughter from her first husband – from whom she was divorced when she went to Syria.
Her second husband, Nader Hadra, from Frankfurt, appears to have been the one to have promoted her fundamental interest in Islam and her travel to Syria.
She went there with her eldest, Firdaus, and her two other children. Hadra was killed within six weeks of Abdi’s arrival and she received a widow payment of roughly £1000 in cash.
The Sunday Times also say that Abdi was also involved in a group – Die Wahre Religion or ‘the true religion’ – that tried to make people convert.
The group was later banned in Germany for sending over 140 jihadists to join ISIS and al-Qaeda across the Middle East.
Soon after, she took a second husband – Denis Cuspert, a rapper also known as Deso Dogg, also from Germany. It is he who she is pictured gazing at as he holds an AK-47.
He was a key social media recruiter for ISIS and promoted an interest in Twitter for his wife who then created @FreeOurSisters1, according to Al Aan TV.
This group, and affiliate groups, were used to glorify convicted terrorists.
Further analysis of the phone revealed a damning image of the Reichstag in Berlin with armed jihadists gazing towards the building in front a message in German that reads: ‘Revenge will be in front of your home… ‘
