Momena Shoma is a a 28-year-old exchange student from Bangladesh, is accused of carrying out an Islamic State-inspired stabbing in Australia.

She arrived in Melbourne to study at La Trobe University and had only been in Australia a handful of weeks when she entered the bedroom of Roger Singaravelu, wearing a burqa and stabbing him in his sleep.

Shoma allegedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” before stabbing Roger Singaravelu in the neck with a kitchen knife in the neck in front of his five-year-old daughter.

She had selected her victim in the hopes of sparking international media coverage and sending a political message.

Shoma pleaded guilty to two terrorism charges over the incident in October last year when she stabbed the victim with a pair of garden shears.

Also, Shoma attacked a fellow prisoner in October last year, stabbing the victim with a pair of garden shears.

The attacked victim threw up her hands and managed to avoid the worst of the attack before she alerted prison guards, as two other inmates held Shoma back.

Shoma attempted to declare her allegiance to Allah from prison in letters addressed to her father and sister.

The letters were intercepted by prison staff as the content was dangerous and inappropriate. Shoma will be sentenced at a later date.
