Nearly 30 Syrian soldiers and Islamic State terrorists killed in ongoing battles in Hama countryside

Fierce battles continue on various frontlines in the Syrian desert, between regime forces and loyal militias on the one hand, and the Islamic State members on the other, coinciding with intensive airstrikes by the regime helicopters and Russian jets, in an attempt to repel the group’s ongoing attacks on the area.

The clashes are concentrated on the frontlines of Al-Rahjan and Athuria in the eastern countryside of Hama and other frontlines within the Aleppo-Hama-Raqqa triangle.

The Syrian Observatory has documented further casualties on both sides, as a result of shelling and clashes in the last hours. 13 ISIS members were killed, while the number of fatalities among regime forces and loyal militias rose to 16.

The death toll is expected to rise as several injured are in serious condition, amid reports of further fatalities.

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of 903 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 140 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, Homs, and Al-Suwaidaa.

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, 11 shepherds and four other people were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 495 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
