In Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine detained one of the leaders of the international terrorist organization Islamic State, who is wanted by Interpol. The press center of the SBU reports.

“According to the information received by the Ukrainian special service, the perpetrator is from one of the post-Soviet countries and is part of the leadership of the ISIS terrorists. It has been established that at one time the detainee was the deputy of the well-known Chechen radical Islamist Akhmed Chatayev, who is suspected of organizing the terrorist attack at Ataturk International Airport in 2016. The foreigner took part in hostilities on the territory of Syria and Iraq, was engaged in the selection and training of militants, organizing terrorist attacks,” the message says.

It is noted that in 2018, a man illegally arrived in Ukraine using forged documents. In the Kyiv region, he created a criminal group, which included immigrants from the countries of Central Asia.

Now the detainee is under arrest for 40 days. The extradition check procedure has begun.

The SBU is also checking the possible involvement of an international criminal and members of a criminal group in the preparation of terrorist acts on the territory of Ukraine.

As we reported before, head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov could replace Iryna Venedyktova at the post of the prosecutor general.
