Syrian Army sends reinforcements to Euphrates region to prevent ISIS’s escape

With the recent string of Islamic State attacks near the key border city of Albukamal, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has responded by sending reinforcements to the western bank of the Euphrates River.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army sent reinforcements to the outskirts of Albukamal to prevent any potential escape by the Islamic State’s forces that are currently losing territory east of the Euphrates.

The source said that local tribesmen and military personnel from the National Defense Forces (NDF) have also arrived to aid the Syrian Arab Army around the city of Albukamal.

Since the start of the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) operation in the eastern part of the Euphrates River Valley, the Islamic State has been trying to smuggle supplies and fighters in and out of their pocket.

However, due to the large presence of Syrian Arab Army troops near Albukamal, the Islamic State has been unable to regulate this smuggling from the Badiya Al-Sham region.
