ISIS asks for huge amount ransom to release three Kurdish captives

Islamic State (IS) has asked for a “huge amount” in ransom for releasing three Kurdish citizens from Tuz Khurmatu.

The three men were abducted by the jihadists on 25th December from the village of Para Para on the road between Tuz Khurmatu and Daquq. Another one soon managed to escape.

According to a local representative for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the IS militants have now contacted the family of the captives, asking for ransom in return for the lives of the Kurdish men.

The source did not reveal further details of the safety of the captives.

The security situation in Tuz Khurmatu and its surrounding districts and villages remains unfavorable as IS sleeper cells exploit the security vacuums created by the Iranian-backed militias of Hashd al-Shaabi who are now in control of the region.
