Senior ISIS commander arrested in Kirkuk

Iraqi security forces arrested overnight on Monday an Islamic State (IS) commander in Kirkuk province who was in charge of executing people, said reports.

According to Iraqi media outlets, Abu Wahab Iraqi with four of his fellows were captured in Hawija during an operation by the Iraqi forces.

Earlier the day, a militant group’ police chief identified as Abu Fatma al-Muhajir was arrested by the Iraqi troops in west of Anbar, as reported by Iraqi News.

The source said that Muhajir was trying to escape toward Qaim town, on borders with Syria.

In mid-2014, Islamic State took over a vast area in Iraq and Syria. However, it was declared defeated in December, last year, but the extremist group has lately reorganized itself in several liberated areas.
