Stefan Aristidou is a 27-year-old British man who was arrested at Heathrow airport after arriving on a flight from Turkey has been charged with terror offences. Aristidou, who is of Greek origin, after his flight from Turkey landed he was taken into custody at a south London police station.

He was arrested on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts – in relation to alleged offending in Syria – encouragement of terrorism and dissemination of terrorist publications.

The offences relate to alleged activity in 2014 and 2015, before he travelled to Syria.

Aristidou is accused of sending other people Islamic State group videos depicting public executions and the beheading of a soldier.

He is said to have travelled to Syria from the UK in 2015 at a time when Islamic State controlled a large amount of territory. In April 2015, he landed at Larnaca Airport on the southeastern coast of Cyprus. Seven days later he went missing.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 February.
