Two suspected Al-Qaeda associates, who were arrested from Madhya Pradesh by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), were remanded to 12-day police custody by a Howrah court and were brought to Bengal on Friday.

The accused, Ekramul Haque and Jahiruddin Ali, are Bangladeshi nationals and were produced before the court from Bhopal Central Correctional Home.

Both have been remanded to police custody in a case registered at Howrah’s Domjur police station relating to their involvement in the unlawful terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda and related modules.

As per the Special Task Force (STF) sources, the duo was arrested by MP ATS some time back while both were wanted by the West Bengal police. They were remanded by the police on the basis of a production warrant.

The STF unit had earlier arrested two suspected members of the banned terrorist outfit, Al-Qaeda, from Kharibari in August.
