Suspected ISIS recruiter arrested in Germany for plotting chemical attack in Israel

A 21-year-old Syrian has been arrested for allegedly plotting a chemical attack in Israel, a police spokesman has said.

The man, who was arrested in a Berlin coffee shop, is also suspected to have been recruiting terrorists on behalf of ISIS, German media is reporting.

It’s understood Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service received a tip from a foreign ally on the suspect and passed on the information to local authorities who began tapping his phone.

Masked special forces officers armed with machine guns detained him as police blocked nearby roads, Haaretz reports.

A video has emerged of them wrestling a man to the ground next to a café last Thursday.

It is claimed the 21-year-old arrived in Germany via Libya using a fake passport. And it is believed he is still in custody.

Police said he was also wanted for assault at the time of his arrest.

The man, who has not yet been named, was previously arrested for theft, according to news site Bild.
