At least 16 Afghan soldiers and police officers were killed and several were injured in a Taliban attack in eastern Afghanistan, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing a local source.

According to the agency’s interlocutor, Taliban militants attacked the positions of Afghan security forces in the Hogyani district of Nangarhar province.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry earlier said that inter-Afghan talks in Doha would begin on September 12. A member of the Taliban leadership, Abdul Ghani Baradar, and representatives of a delegation of the radical movement arrived in the Qatari capital.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that the movement had formed a delegation to participate in negotiations with the Afghan government, it included 21 people.

In early August, members of the Afghan National People’s Congress (Loya Jirga) decided to release the remaining 400 Taliban members. This was the condition of the Taliban to start inter-Afghan negotiations. Later, a member of the negotiating group of the Afghan government, Ahmad Nader Naderi, told RIA Novosti that nothing was preventing the start of negotiations between the Afghan authorities and the radical movement, there was no reason to drag out the negotiations.
