Ten Islamic state tunnels destroyed in Iraq

The Iraqi security forces have destroyed ten tunnels belonging to the Islamic State (IS) jihadists in the areas between the provinces of Nineveh and Salahaddin.

The security media cell said in a statement that the counter-terrorism forces, backed by the coalition jets, carried out a military operation in Nineveh and Salahaddin in search for the remnants of the IS group, as cited by Al-Sumariyah News.

The forces targeted ten IS tunnels in addition to the killing of several insurgents in the operation, the report added.

The Islamic State was declared defeated in late 2017, but the extremist group’s sleeper cells still impose a great threat to the security forces and civilians of the liberated areas.
