Two Islamic State members were arrested, while two rest houses were destroyed, in Salahuddin province, the Federal Police command said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, Federal Police Commander, said troops “managed to arrest two militants, who were wanted for judiciary, in al-Hawish checkpoint in Samarra, Salahuddin province.”

Troops, according to Jawdat, inspected regions on the banks of Tigris River , which resulted in “setting two rest houses on fire.”

On Saturday, two civilians were killed as a bomb, planted by Islamic State militants, went off in Qayyarah district. On Friday, a senior Islamic State leader was killed in an explosion on borders between Diyala and Salahuddin provinces.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

In December, Iraq announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.
