Seven ISIS terrorists including one deadly assassin of security forces arrested in Mosul

Seven Islamic State militants were arrested Tuesday in Mosul city, with one of them facing charges of assassinating security forces, the Iraqi interior ministry’s spokesman said.

“Karama security forces, acting upon intelligence reports, arrested seven wanted terrorists of Islamic State in Aden district in Mosul’s eastern side,” Iraqi website Baghdad Today quoted Maj. Gen. Saad Maan as saying in a statement.

“One of them admitted assassinating security forces and photographing criminal acts carried out by the terrorist group with the aim of terrifying citizens,” Maan said.

He added that another arrestee “admitting joining the Islamic State in 2014 after the group seized control of the city of Mosul in 2014.”

The Islamic State group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of an Islamic “caliphate” from Mosul city.

Later on, the group has become notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings, prompting the U.S. to lead an international coalition to destroy it.

Despite the group’s crushing defeat at its main havens across Iraq, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks against troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.
