A senior source from Anbar provincial council has revealed about release of Islamic State terrorists and smuggling them into Turkey in return for bribes.

Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “Anbar provinces which include hundreds of detainees of Islamic State saw legal violations through releasing some prominent figures in return for money reaching up to US$35,000.”

The released militants, according to the source, “travel to Turkey, which has many prominent Islamic State leaders who fled to there, after arrest warrants were issued against them.”

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

On Sunday, three Islamic State members were killed, while a secret tunnel was destroyed, west of Anbar near borders with Syria. Last week, five Islamic State members were killed in a security campaign in desert regions, in Wadi Houran, west of Anbar.
