ISIS terrorists retreat from strategic bastion in Eastern Syria

The sources said that the ISIL terrorist group has withdrawn from the town of al-Shafa in Eastern Deir Ezzur after heavy clashes with the SDF fighters.

Al-Shafa was one of the most important bastions of the ISIL in Eastern Deir Ezzur after Hajin region.

The sources said the ISIL has retreated towards the town of al-Souseh and the village of al-Bu Badran in Deir Ezzur province.

The ISIL terrorist group is currently in control of about 7 square kilometers along the Euphrates River.

In a relevant development on Sunday, media reports said that the Syrian Democratic Forces retreated from a region in Eastern Deir Ezzur after residents protested against the SDF’s presence in that area.

The SDF forces withdrew from the village of al-Kashkiyeh in Southeastern Deir Ezzur, the Arabic-language al-Manar news website reported.

It noted that local people objected to SDF’s presence in Deir Ezzur and the death of a number of civilians in a recent US airstrike and SDF’s attacks on a house in the region.

Meantime, battlefield sources in Eastern Syria said that a new agreement has been reached between SDF and ISIL on the dispatch of convoys comprising foodstuff and medical supplies to the regions under ISIL’s control in Eastern Deir Ezzur.
