German-Turkish woman acquitted in Iraq of ISIS link charges

After a year in Iraq’s prison, a German-Turkish woman was on Wednesday cleared by a court of having ties with the Islamic State (IS).

Hadya Abdel Qader was arrested by the Iraqi forces in the northern city of Mosul which was once the stronghold of IS. She has been kept ever since behind bars without charges.

A judicial source said the Baghdad central court had found no links between Qader and the IS, and that she is now cleared.

The 40-year-old will remain in prison while prosecutors are given a month to decide whether to confirm or overturn the judge’s ruling, al-Arabiya reported.
