Turkish police arrest three terrorists over suspected ISIS links

Turkish authorities on Tuesday arrested three people in the country’s central province of Konya, including one former police officer alleged to be the provincial leader of the terror organisation, Islamist Yeni Akit newspaper reported.

Police in Konya, acting on information from a former convicted ISIS member-turned-informant, arrested three men, one of whom is a retired special operations policeman accused of heading ISIS in the region, the newspaper said.

The arrests follow a police raid conducted in Konya on July 12, 2017 in 10 homes, which killed five ISIS members in a standoff where four police were injured.

Mehmet Akif Kök, one of the men arrested and given a five year jail sentence before his early release, cooperated with the police, Yeni Şafak said.

Turkey has detained more than 5,000 ISIS suspects and deported some 3,290 foreign militants from 95 different countries in recent years, according officials.
