Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists arrested by the Indian authorities

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), allegedly involved in indoctrinating youth into taking up arms, were arrested in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday based on a tip-off, police said.

The two have been identified as Irfan Ahmed Kuttey and Adil Bashir Lone, both from Shopian. Irfan was tasked with motivating youth of Shopian’s Imamsahib and adjoining areas to join the LeT, and had even recruited Adil into the proscribed outfit, a top cop said.

During questioning, the duo admitted to being involved in reorganizing the outfit and conspiring with fellow terrorists in terror crimes. Irfan revealed that he had received instructions from an unknown terrorist to recruit Adil into the ranks.

He added that he was in constant touch with some Pakistani terrorists through apps like Telegram and Vpole, and had hidden an AK-47 in his cowshed, which cops later recovered from the spot.

Adil told police that he came in touch with a foreign terrorist Waleed in November last year, to whom he expressed his wish to join militancy. Waleed took his number and asked him to wait for a call. Nearly a month later, Adil got recruited into the outfit through Irfan, the police officer said.

Irfan further told cops that he earlier worked as an overground worker for slain LeT terrorist Zubair Turray. He was introduced to Turray by Shahid Islam Naikoo, who is presently behind bars under the Public Safety Act, the officer said. Further interrogation is on, the cop added.
