Four women were raped by ISIS fighters – then stoned to death for ‘committing adultery’, it has been reported
The victims were arrested even though ISIS militants are said to have caught them being abused during a raid in the city of Mosul.
They were brought before a sharia court which ordered them to be publicly executed without giving any details about their alleged abusers.
The four women were stoned to death in front of a large crowd, according to local sources.
Media activist Abdullah al-Malla Syrian press agency ARA News: ‘The four women were most likely exposed to sexual abuse at the hands of ISIS militants before being driven out of their homes and transferred to the Sharia Court.
‘Apparently, the victims had been raped by ISIS jihadis and then stoned to death on charges of committing adultery.’
Raafat Zarari, spokesman of the Nineveh media centre, told the agency that the four victims were arrested on Wednesday in a raid by ISIS jihadis.
He added: ‘The jihadis claimed to have captured the women while committing adultery.’
Under Islamic sharia law, married men or women can be stoned to death for having sex outside wedlock, while those who are unmarried face being lashed.
Stoning as a method of execution has frequently been been reported in areas controlled by Islamist groups across the Middle-East, including ISIS-controlled areas in Syria and Iraq, as well as Taliban territory in Afghanistan.
