Terrorists post videos on social networks before carrying out a terror attack – A Fact to live with or an opportunity to turn things around for the better

Killing people is not part of “freedom of speech”. That has been made clear by almost all relevant courts in the western world. It is time to stop the phenomenon of making killings public in social media, thus avoiding copycats, idolizing killers and turning social media into sociopathic media.

All social media should disallow any such publications and make law enforcement aware of what is trying to go online as soon as possible.

Social media platforms have become an easy and comfortable playground for terrorists to promote their extreme acts and recruit supporters and operatives.

In this article we examine several terrorist attacks that have taken place in recent years and are engraved in the public consciousness due to the use of social networks.

Details

In recent years we have been experiencing a new phenomenon directly related to terrorist attacks – self preliminary posts made for incitement on social networks. The videos contain confessions, intentions, incitement, rage, violence, weapons and prayers.
The terrorist himself is the video “performer”, in which he describes hatred towards the state, a religious or ethnic group, Western civilization, etc. and how he is going to take revenge on them for controlling his beliefs and freedom (a very extremist and racist freedom). The video is often accompanied by religious rites when the terrorist describes himself/others describe him, as doing something sacred, and that he is going to die for the divine purpose of liberation of his people. The desire to harm as many sinners as possible will gain for him, according to his belief, greater honor and respect among the crowd of supporters on social media, streets of his ideological neighborhood and in the next life.

The videos are published sometimes just a few moments before carrying out the attack, sometimes even few minutes after. This method makes it harder for security forces to get ahead of the individual/squad and prevent the attack from happening. When the video is released on the different platform, it doesn’t matter when, immediately it does the exact effect it was created for.

Examples:

Terror attack – Christchurch Mosque shootings, New Zealand, 2019:

[Two consecutive mass shootings occurred in mosques in the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday Prayer on 15 March 2019.]

The attack, carried out by a single gunman who entered both mosques, (Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Center) shot and killed 51 people and injured 40. The man, Brenton Harrison Tarrant, was described in media reports as a white supremacist and part of the alt right. He had live-streamed the first shooting on Facebook, and prior to the attack, had published an online manifesto.

[During the attack]

Kujtim Fejzullai, 20-year-old individual of ethnic Albanian origin with dual Austrian and North Macedonian citizenship, opened fire in the streets of Vienna’s historical center and against the Stadttempel synagogue. In the attack he killed 4 people and injured 23. He was heavily armed with an AK-47 rifle, a Tokarev handgun, a machete, and a fake suicide vest.

The following day, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack and released a video of Fejzullai pledging allegiance to the jihadist Organization with the “nom de guerre” Abu Dujana al-Albani.

Terror attacks against Israeli Jews, cases 2021-2022:

The two terrorists from the terror attack in Hedera, Israel, 27/02/2022. On the left in a video before the attack, on the right during the attack. In the attack they killed two people and injured five.

[On the left the terrorist, and two caricatures that spread like wildfire after the terror attack in Jerusalem’s old city in 21/11/2021. The purpose is to tell the people to revenge the death of the martyr and support his actions. In the attack he injured five people, one died later at hospital.]

These posts which ignite the fire of hatred and terrorism, do incite, and excite more and more close circle extremists, and other opportunists to copycat them and go out and harm the Israeli Jews. In social networks they also spread fake news that achieve even higher support.
