2 killed in al-Shabab attack in coastal Kenya

At least two people were killed Tuesday by al-Shabab militants in the latest attack in the tourist region of Lamu, a government official confirmed.

Acting Lamu County Commissioner Charles Kitheka said the incident happened after the gang raided the village and harassed the farmers, adding that the terrorists also burned two vehicles as they fled the scene of the attack in the Milhoi area.

“The police are investigating the incident,” he said on the phone, adding that a major operation was launched by security officials in the area to hunt down the terrorists.

Kenyan security officials have been on alert following reports that al-Shabab terrorists were planning attacks in undisclosed locations.

Lamu is one of the tourist areas frequently targeted by al-Shabab militants.
This is partly due to its proximity to the Kenya-Somalia border.
