3 militants suspected of plotting attacks killed in north Afghanistan

Afghan security forces have killed three militants in north Afghanistan’s Balkh province, a statement of the provincial government said on Wednesday.

The three armed militants, according to the statement, came in contact with the security forces in Balkh district of Balkh province on Tuesday night and the insurgents were killed.

An AKM, two pistols and two cars have also been seized by the security forces from the militants, the statement added, without providing more details.

The statement also blamed the three for creating law and order problems in Balkh, noting the killed insurgents were involved in subversive activities including attacks by hand grenades, using light weapons in targeting their targets and planning to target the serving governor of Balkh province.

Balkh has experienced at least two blasts since early this year and one of them claimed the life of Balkh’s former provincial governor in March, for which the rival Daesh or the hardliner Islamic State outfit claimed responsibility.
