Benjamin Carpenter (from Knoxville, Tennessee) has been accused of making English translations of propaganda for the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) terrorist group.
A federal grand jury indicted Carpenter for allegedly leading Ahlut-Tawhid Publications, an international organization that translates and publishes Islamic State and pro-Islamic State materials.
The indictment also alleged that Carpenter shared some translated materials with an undercover FBI agent who Carpenter believed was associated with the Islamic State terrorist group.
Authorities arrested Carpenter on March 24, 2021. His trial begins June 1, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). If convicted, Carpenter could face up to 20 years in prison.
