Facebook Claims It Removes 99 Percent Of Posts By ISIS

Facebook employees remove virtually every social media post by the Islamic State and Al Qai’da even before users report them, the tech giant’s global counter-terrorism chief Erin Saltman claimed at an international conference in Jerusalem. Saltman revealed that in the first quarter of 2018 alone, Facebook removed 1.9 million terrorist-related posts. In addition, she said that through a mechanism created jointly by Facebook, YouTube and Microsoft, some 80,000 visual images and videos were removed from the companies’ platforms. Earlier at the same event, Israeli Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit noted that the Justice Ministry’s Cyber Department persuaded social media companies to take down over 10,000 such posts in 2017. Nonetheless, more needs to be done according to the conference’s organizer, Israeli Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan, who sent a letter this week to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey imploring him close the accounts operated by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hizbullah.
