Israeli Security Services Thwart ISIS Terrorist Attack in East Jerusalem

Israeli security forces announced on Thursday that they foiled terrorist attacks planned by supporters of Islamic State (ISIS) in east Jerusalem.

“Two terrorists planned to prepare charges and explosive devices and shoot at a police station, and in the Teddy Stadium area in Jerusalem,” the Jerusalem District Police and Israel’s Shin Bet internal security agency said in a joint statement.

The Israeli authorities added that the suspects, reportedly in their 20s, pledged allegiance to ISIS and “planned to carry out a number of attacks in central areas of the city of Jerusalem, with various plans of placing explosives and firing firearms.”

The two men teamed up with an older individual in his 50s who advised them on their plot and convinced them to travel abroad for military training to better carry out terrorist attacks, according to the Security agencies.

Israeli police and the Shin Bet said the suspects were arrested last month before they could leave the country.

Separately on Thursday, the Shin Bet announced that security forces foiled and arrested a terrorist cell planning to carry out attacks in Israel, including the assassination of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The cell — comprised of Arabs from Israel and the West Bank — tried to make contact with Hamas to sponsor, finance, and direct the terrorist activities, according to the announcement by the Shin Bet. One of the West Bank operatives reportedly made contact and was offered funding for attacks in Israel.
