NIA court in Ernakulam convicts three in Islamic State Valapattanam case

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Ernakulam on Friday convicted three persons for providing support to ISIS.

Those convicted were members of the proscribed terrorist organisation and were attempting to travel out of India to join ISIS in Syria to fight.

The case was initially registered on October 25, 2017 at Valapattanam PS, Kerala and was taken over for investigation by NIA on December 16, 2017.

After thorough investigation, a charge-sheet was filed by NIA on April 21, 2018 against four accused persons.

The three convicted accused are, Midlaj, a resident of Munderi, Kannur district, Kerala who has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fine under sections 38, 39 of UA (P) Act and 120B of IPC,

Abdul Razak, a resident of Chekkikulam, Kannur district, Kerala has been sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment and fine under section 38 of UA (P) Act and 120B of IPC.

Hamsa U.K., a resident of Thalassery, Kannur district, Kerala has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fine under section 38, 39 of UA (P) Act and 120B of IPC.

Further investigations in the case are in progress.
