Rights organization says Iranian embassy in Sana’a has been turned to military barracks

The Humanitarian League for Rights and Freedoms has confirmed that the Iranian embassy in Sana’a has been transformed over the past years into a military barracks, a training center for the Houthi militia, and military operations rooms in which Iranian military advisors meet with Houthi leaders.

League member Tawfiq Al-Sharabi, in his speech before the 54th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, pointed out that Iran’s unilateral decision to recognize the Houthi militia, which overthrew the Yemeni government in September 2014, contributed significantly to the increase in the militias’ violations of human rights in Yemen.

He pointed out that the United Nations does not recognize the authority of the Houthis, and international recognition is limited to the government in Yemen. Despite this, Iran took its unilateral decision, which has negative effects on the Yemenis in encouraging the Houthis to commit more violations against the Yemenis and limits their enjoyment of human rights.

The League called on the Human Rights Council to pressure Iran to reverse its unilateral decision, which will improve the human rights situation in Yemen.
